C.H. Evans Brewing Company at the Albany Pump Station has again won a Gold Medal in the American Brown Ale category for their Kick-ass Brown Ale at the Great American Beer Festival. This is the third GABF Gold Medal earned by Brewmaster George de Piro for his Kick-ass Brown and the fourth major award for this beer. Previously it has won Gold medals at both the 2000 and 2002 Great American Beer Festivals and a Bronze at the 2004 World Beer Cup, also in the American Brown ale category. "To win a medal at the Great American Beer Festival shows that you make a good beer. To win three Gold medals shows that you make consistently great beer." said Brewmaster George de Piro (who really says "trademark" every time he says "Great American Beer Festival") The Great American Beer Festival, an annual national brewing competition organized by the Brewers Association, was held in Denver, CO. Beers were evaluated for technical merit and stylistic accuracy by a blind taste panel composed of professional brewers and industry experts from around the world. Awards were announced on October 11. de Piro has earned many awards as both a professional and hobby brewer, including medals at the Great American Beer Festival, World Beer Cup, National Homebrew Competition and Masters Championship of Amateur Brewing. He has been the Brewmaster at C.H. Evans Brewing Company at the Albany Pump Station since their opening in May 1999. C.H. Evans Brewing Company is no stranger to success, previously winning awards at the World Beer Cup, Great American Beer Festival and numerous local competitions. They have the most major awards of any area brewery. |
