We won a silver award on April 19 at the World Beer Cup, a bi-annual, international contest in which brewing professionals from all over the world evaluate beers according to stringent guidelines. The tastings are blind and prizes are only awarded to the top three beers in each category. This year's judging was in San Diego, CA.

The Pump Station took silver in the "European Dark Lager" category with our "Munich Dunkel," a beer with a boring name but rich, complex malt character.

"It is especially satisfying for me to have won in the European Dark Lager category because it is a field dominated by German breweries. Both the gold and bronze medals were awarded to Germans this year, and only one other American brewery has won in this category since 2004." said Brewmaster George de Piro.

de Piro crafted this beer as a late winter seasonal, but hopes to work another batch into the brewing schedule soon. "I knew this beer was a keeper when I first tasted it. I rarely drink the same beer twice in one day, but I kept a keg of this one at my house for a few weeks." commented George, who is also a Master judge in the Beer Judge Certification Program.

C.H. Evans Brewing Company is no stranger to success, previously winning awards at the World Beer Cup, Great American Beer Festival and numerous local competitions. They have the most major awards of any area brewery.
